BIG ASS SKIRTS

Speaking of holiday parties, this holiday seaon I would love to rock a fabulous, completely ridiculous, giant mother of a skirt. SJP in this amazing Zac Posen number was the only redeming quality of the SATC2 movie. Since then I have loved this look, which was all over the runway for S/S 2012. Love the dramatic skirt paired with a simple tee. So fun!

In The Trenches

Happy Monday friends! Last week sure was one hell of a crazy week, but this past weekend was fall perfection. Blue skies, some sunshine, a nice little chill in the air and a visit from the bf to boot. Aside from fun outdoor activities, this weather is the perfect compliment to one of my fall favorites, the classic trench coat. I invested in this wardrobe staple just last year and it has quickly become a favorite. Throw it over any outfit and you instantly feel chic! (Or, at least I do).
How cute are those polka dot tights?!

Maxed Out

Thanks to this lovely little Indian summer we are having here in New York, I have not yet had to give up one of my favorite summer staples, maxi skirts. This summer favorite transitions perfectly to these crisp fall days by throwing on a chunky sweater or wrapping up in a comfy scarf. Loving these looks below.

Isabel Marant S/S 2012

Isabel Marant is one of the shows I look forward to every fashion week! Love, love, LOVE this woman. Her collection this time around reminded me more of fall than spring, but that does not stop me from obsessing over her ridiculously colorful chunky knits and boho, world-traveler inspired looks.

#NYFW Kelly Wearstler

Interior design goddess turned clothing designer Kelly Wearstler showed off her second ever collection this week and the gorgeous mod-glam aesthetic of her interiors translates seamlessly to a runway filled with bold, beautiful prints and colors. With prints inspired by a book of drawings about the Karaha Indians of Brazil, perfectly leather jackets paired with some basic tee's, this collection is about as wearable as they come. I'll take one of everything please.

#NYFW Pinch me

Happy Fashion Week! One of my favorite times of year and by far my least productive since I turn into a serious style.com stalker. It's the first time I've been in NYC for fashion week in a while so I have been taking every opportunity to hang around Lincoln Center (and completely ignoring the piles of homework I should be doing instead...oops). On Saturday while I was taking photos of all of the fashionable ladies and gents pretending to look like I knew what I was doing, some amazing Conde Nast photographer just gave me an extra press pass to the Charlotte Ronson show! Just like that. WHAT!? Things like this NEVER happen to me. (Except for one time when I got moved from the nose bleed section to the front row of a Celine Dion concert, but that is slightly more embarrassing than I care to admit so moving on...) It was ridiculous. I had such a blast and was on inspiration overload. Charlotte's show was channeling the 90's with a semi boho-grunge feel, some denim overalls and sweet neon chokers. Here are some of my favorite looks from the show, love the ombre and femininity going on here. Can't wait to head back tomorrow to see what other shows I can talk my way into!

Some shots from the photographer pit...via my iphone! Not the best choice of equipment I'm aware, but I'll leave that to the pros.

Pretty in Pink {and Red}

Emma Stone rocked the red carpet last week at the premier of  No Strings Attached Friends With Benefits. (Anyone seen this yet? Should I wait for netflix?) This girl seems to be taking  Hollywood by storm lately and she was looking gorgeous with a capital G in this hot pink and red Giambattista Valli ensemble. It helps when you have awesome red hair to complete the look. This bright, bold color combo is quite the show stopper. Not sure I could pull it off myself, but I do love these shades together!

Summer {Fancy} Friday

It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday. (I have that terrible Rebecca Black song in my head after watching {this} hilarious spoof by Stephen Colbert and The Roots). Ahhhmazing!
Anyway....it has been quite a scorcher this week and it has me seriously craving some beach time! Unfortunately I will have to wait two weeks before getting to the beach, but in the mean time I will at least be looking beachy while enjoying relaxing summer weekend here in Columbus. AV's {link up} this week is a little white dress theme, however I went a bit more casual with some little white shorts for my {not so} fancy Friday outfit inspiration. I am pretty excited for my little bro to visit this weekend and we will be spending lots of time outside - grilling, eating bbq at the Jazz & Ribs fest and hanging in the park - and then escaping back to the house for some ac. Hope you have a great weekend!

Get Shorty

As much as I am loving all of the lace shorts, scalloped shorts, silk shorts, yes even culottes (hello 5th grade flashback anyone?) and all the other fancy schmancy short styles around, I must give a shout out to my go to summer uniform, vintage denim shorts . There is nothing better than throwing on a perfectly broken in pair of denim shorts on a weekend morning (or in my case, any morning since they are totally acceptable attire where I work). Levi's 501's are a true classic, but any pair of jeans past their heyday will lend themselves to the perfect pair of shorts, so get out your scissors and get to work!

How amazing do MK and Ashley look in this photo?! (Despite the fact that they are legit fashion icons, I will forever think of a 7- year old Michelle Tanner when I look at them).

If you are not so keen on getting all Edward Scissor hands on your favorite pair of Citizens, here are some styles from some favorite denim brands, the next best thing to making your own since most of the "breaking in" is already done for you. It's like you've had them for years.

A far cry from the good 'ol classic, but it is hard not to love these colorful bad boys that take it up just a notch.

Summer Essentials

Happy Thursday! Today you can find me over at Emily's blog:

I love summer and all things about summer so I was super excited when Emily asked me to guest post on my summer essentials. I have also been too busy enjoying the amazing weather to blog the past week or so, since staying inside staring at a computer is about the last thing I want to be doing! I'll be back to normal posting one of these days, but in the meantime come on over here to check out my favorite things about summer tiiiiiiiiiiime! Here is a quick snapshot...

Oh denim shorts and flip flops, summer dresses and bathing suits, how I love you so! Warm weather outfits are my fave, so easy breezy and care-free. I could seriously live in my flip flops, with perfectly pedicured toes of course. Two swim brands I am completely crushing on this summer are Gilly Hicks and Sea Folly, such cute and girly suits!

Guest Post: A Blonde Ambition {Festival Style}

Hey, beauties! So honored to be blogging over here at Kristin’s place today!
Summer is already in full swing here in Arkansas, (hello 95 degree heat!), and I’m positively giddy about bustin’ out my summer clothes. One of my favorite things about this time of year is that during the warmer months, practically anything goes in terms of style.
I’d describe my personal summer look as a mish-mash of bohemian chic and vintage edge. I guess one could call it Festival Glam : )
Think Kate Hudson a ‘la Almost Famous

Even if you didn’t catch Coachella or Bonnaroo this year, there’s still time to channel your inner hippy chick. Our friends at Topshop never fail us and, once again this season, have come up with some incredible pieces sure to make you the most stylish honey at the venue:

Easy Breezy Babe
This white sundress from Topshop paired with this Moto Denim jacket, satchel and crochet gladiators is just the ticket to a daytime or nighttime show. The jacket is small enough to roll up and store in the bag during the day and the sandals allow your feet to breathe.
White Crochet Neck Sundress, Moto Bleach Wash Denim JacketHIPPO Multi Swirl Sandal, Navy Washed Leather Duffle Bag

Glam Gypsy Rocker
I LOVE this leopard print maxi dress as a flowy, feminine alternative to leather and chains, which we’re so used to seeing at rock shows. Pair the dress with a fab whipstitch bag and bright coral red lip for added drama. Then watch the boys gather ‘round…

Hot pants? Check. Tight fitting baby tee? Check. Sky-high espadrilles? Check and check. This outfit provides all the ingredients for creating a super sexy music fest look. This outfit is probably most appropriate for a nighttime show. Don’t forget to stick a pair of ballet flats or sandals in your bag, since these shoes are could be a quick ticket to blister city : ) But hey, beauty is pain, right?

The off-white skinny jeans, exotic printed cami and tasty orange cross-body bag make this the most modern of the outfits (and probably the most comfortable.) This outfit can go easily from day to night with a smoky eye and stiletto heel, perfect for those concert after parties.

Tips for Festival Syling
-Wear comfortable shoes. A music fest is a guarantee that you’ll probably be standing for hours, so be kind to your tootsies and go with flats. Gladiator sandals and crochet ballet flats are all the rage this summer.
-Don’t get all matchy-matchy. This rule of thumb applies to styling for any type of event in my opinion, but especially at a music fest. Don’t be afraid to mix contrasting colors and patterns. A vintage tee pairs beautifully with a feminine blazer. A pretty sundress looks amazing with distressed oxfords. Dare to be bold in your choices, girls.
- Go easy on the make-up. Clown face is never cool, particularly in the summer when you’re face is bound to melt off by noon anyway. I love a good tinted moisturizer, waterproof mascara and simple gloss when I’m outside all day. You’ll look pulled together, but won’t run the risk of looking like The Joker when you start to sweat : )

So go forth, you music loving vixens, and conquer!
Be blessed, lovelies-

Spotted: Gossip Girl Gone Retro

She's got a new man and a new 'do and is looking absolutely stunning in this vintage shoot featured in this month's Glamour. I have always been a fan of Blake Lively (and I guess I can forgive her for stealing my teen-age crush, Leo, even though I'm pretty sure he is destined to someday be with Kate Winslet - Jack and Rose reunion anyone?). This editorial is perfectly styled, and I am loving those lavender lace shorts, mustard platform pumps and that hair! What does a girl need to do to get some volume like that?

White Hot Summer

With Memorial Day weekend behind us, it is now fashionably acceptable to break out all of your white dresses and pants! (Although I definitely do not abide by this rule and have been sneaking in white jeans for the past few months). But anywho, quite the contrast to all of the super bright colors everywhere, white is incredibly airy and refreshing - superskinny or wideleg jeans or the perfect little white dress - all great for those summer backyard bbq's, beach days and patio happy hours. Accessorizing is the name of the game and a little white provides a great canvas for some colorful jewels, neon nails, a preppy navy blazer or that bronzed summer glow!

Beach Party

In my book Memorial day weekend is the official start of summer. Bring on the half-day Friday's, BBQ's, concerts, weekend get-a-ways and beach days! Spring seems to have just past us right by here in Columbus and the wintry rain we've been having the past few months has quickly turned into sunshine and 85 degree days. Which is AWESOME. Even though my job requires me to have swimsuits on my mind all year round, this time of year has got me seriously craving some new beach wear! Two brands I am crushing on this season are Sea Folly and Princesse Tam Tam. Their suits are adorable and their look books make me want to get myself to the beach as soon as possible (and also to the gym)!

Singing the Praises of All Saints

I first discovered All Saints when I was living in London my junior year of college and the brand has recently been making its way into the fashion scene here on this side of the pond. The architecture of the beautifully designed stores is absolutely amazing! Walking into an All Saints feels like you have walked into a totally awesome Brooklyn loft that also doubles as a saloon in the wild wild west. An open airy space with lots of wood and metal, a wall of vintage singer machines, giant wooden doors and just all around gorgeous fixtures, it really is so well done. I am almost more intrigued by the store design than the clothes!

But not completely...I'm still a sucker for great fashion design. The style of design is extremely conceptual and their designers sure do know their way around a dress form since every piece is so intricately draped and structured. Rooted in music and art, the brand has sharp tailoring, the softest knits and beautifully washed leathers.Their style is definitely not for everyone, but their dresses and shoes have definitely got my attention! My Vala pumps are probably my favorite pair of shoes in my closet, and these pieces would be a nice addition.

This collection of Aztec inspired embellished dresses and skirts is amazing! The beads, the sequins, the colors and patterns! Ahhh that dress, I die!
